Surrey Life - October 2014

The menu always has tempting modern dishes as well as classic dishes, while the wine list has an extensive range of French and New World wines waiting to be sampled. Head chef Romain Havard uses only the finest, freshest ingredients to create seasonal dishes and every single day he looks at inventing new, interesting recipe.

As fresh and vibrant as the day it greeted its first diners 32 years ago, La Barbe has built a reputation for terrific food and an elegant ambience, while never taking itself too seriously. Founder Serge Tassi remains joyously at the helm, ensuring his restaurant is as authentically French as the gently humorous etchings that hang from its walls. Think tables dressed in crisp linen, vases of fresh flowers and friendly staff offering an impeccable service.

All of this sets the scene for cuisine that has won La Barbe repeated listings in the prestigious Michelin and Hardens guides and propelled it to the top of Trip Advisor local recommendations. And it doesn't disappoint. Chef Romain Harvard reinvents his menu every season, creating a tantalising selection of classic and regional dishes presented with the flair you would expect at Reigate own corner of France. The emphasis is on local ingredients, freshness, flavour and fabulous presentation.

The restaurant wine list offers carefully selected wines aimed at promoting wines of terroir, character and diversity of style as well as indigenous grape varieties. We also try to promote sustainable, organic, viticulture offering wines from most of the different French wine regions as well as New World Wines.

Definitely a French restaurant with a certain je ne sais quoi.
